Today will have to be a full weekend snapshot because I was a bit too distracted last night to remember the blog!!!
Ben and I went on another fabulous date last night (we did a "free date" night- tried to spend $0...ended up spending $10 for a trip to the ballpark, dinner at Outback, and a movie! Nice!) and had Nanny Jessica come over to watch the kids (there goes the "free" night...this is why we attempted to spend no money on our date- the babysitting cost a fortune! But it's worth it to not feel bad about the possibility of the babies being awake all evening when she's here). All was well at first, the babies actually went right to sleep for her (go figure) and she even washed and made the bottles for us. We were at dinner when I got a text from her asking if we were expecting someone at our house because someone rang the doorbell a few times. I obviously got a little nervous, it was almost 9pm so who would ring our doorbell. We weren't expecting anyone, but Jessica texted and said that they left and the babies were still asleep, so we decided to keep with our movie plans. We went to an earlier showing and got home around 11:30 when Jessica told us what really went down. Apparently, someone knocked three times, each time with increasing force. Then, they rang the doorbell twice for really long periods of time like they were impatient or something. She proceeded to tell us about an incident that happened when she was a nanny for a couple of little boys a few years back- she heard someone knock and then ring the doorbell very similar to what happened last night and then a couple of minutes later, they started slamming into the door like they were trying to break it down!!! Luckily, she came around the corner and the guy who was at the door saw her and ran- I guess he thought since no one answered, no one was there... She had locked the boys in a bedroom upstairs to go check it out.
I was completely traumatized after hearing all of this. I made Ben go walk around our house to make sure no one was lingering around ready to attack... Yeah, I'm super paranoid. I couldn't sleep I was so worried! UGH!
Other than that ridiculousness, this has been a great weekend. A very limited sleep weekend of course, but great. Ben and I traded getting sleep which was good- so he slept in yesterday and I slept in today. Yesterday we took the babies to Costco and today we took the babies to a restaurant around the corner to watch some football! Both days brought us a really long first nap which was awesome. Yesterday, Grace refused to take a second nap so we decided to try skipping the second nap for both of them today (Grace slept through the night last night!! Caleb woke up about 30 minutes after we got home last night and was up almost the rest of the night...poor Ben). All was going pretty well with our new one-nap plan until around 5:00 when Caleb had a complete meltdown and cried all the way until he fell asleep in my arms at 6:30. It was a ROUGH last hour and a half of the night. It's obvious that Grace is ready to drop that nap and little man is absolutely not. We'll have two separate schedules around here for a little while!
Maybe we'll get some good sleep tonight though...he was exhausted (although he didn't drink his last bottle because he was freaking out too much and then passed out too hard. He's been crying on and off for the last 30 minutes or so but very sleepily, so I might just go feed him in a few minutes).
With all of the sleep drama, we've also had some fabulous baby moments. They both did REALLY well at the restaurant today- we actually had a couple of people comment on how awesome they are. They were happy the entire hour and a half we were there (Caleb needed a binky a couple of times). Oh, and Caleb wore his tennis shoes for the first time today and honestly, it seemed to help him with his motor skills! He was doing a lot better with his crawling practice and he was even standing and bending his knees when I left his shoes on him!
Ok, this wasn't much of a snapshot, but there was so much to capture this weekend! Here are a bajillion great pics to prove it...
| Saturday morning stroll with a very tired mommy... These two cute faces make it all worth it every single day! |
| Saturday Breakfast! |
| Sunday football snacks at Wolfeys! The secret to keeping an 11 month old happy at a restaurant? Apparently celery sticks! |
| I heart celery. He went through three sticks and completely murdered each one. :) |
| Gracie tried her hardest to gum them all to death, but they usually just ended up on the floor... |
| Wings and football. I love the Fall! |
And now for a ridiculously long Caleb photo shoot! Check out those new shoes!!!
| The shoes were a big hit with both of them! Grace ended up licking them at least a couple of times... |
| I don't get enough pictures of little man's beautiful eyelashes! |
| Lovely! And yes, that's a piece of celery on his nose. |
| GO CARDINAL! Did you see that huge game against USC?!?! YAY! |
| Probably my favorite baby fashion- diaper and some kicks! |
| Oh yeah, people! That's the one arm stand right there! |
| And that's a step he's taking!!! |
| Mommy doing some core strengthening. He has to use his own ab muscles to hold himself upright. |
| It doesn't always work out well...but this time when he started to fall forward, he actually bent his knees to help catch himself. That's HUGE progress! He's never been in this position before- and then he sort of pushed himself back up into a stand with a little help from Mommy! GO BUDDY! |
| You can't really tell in this picture, but he started bending his knees when I was holding him by the chest! He hasn't been able to bend his knees while standing without buckling completely, so again- that's huge progress!!! |
| He's been doing awesome holding himself up. He was leaning on that pole and holding with his right arm while he played with his left! So, so good! |
| Um, adorable diaper butt with the kicks! |
| Ugh, more therapy. I'm sooo tired. |
| Crawling practice! |
| Ok, this was the best part! He was in this position, which he can usually only hold for a few seconds at a time, and he started actually rocking back and forth like he was about to crawl!!! That's the next step to crawling and he did it for at least five seconds in a row! |
| Boo Bear in her cheerleader outfit! |
| Look at that smile!!! |
| Baby model. |
These pictures are worth the wait. Darling!
